I recently did a an essay about the reality of making poverty history. I reckon that on a global scale we can never make poverty history because the evil that exists in the form of consumerism, greed, economic rationalism, ownership, degredation, abuse of natural resources, arrogance, etc.

However, I believe that on a micro stage, it is very possible to make poverty history. Poverty can be overcome for individuals, families and communities through development programs, fair trade rules, micro-finance, education, disease prevention, improved health care, and the like.

Therefore, we can look forward to the day when the Lord returns and the world is renewed to peace, equity and abundance with the absence of evil. But we can also actively work in the here and now to break the chains of poverty and injustice, healping many people become secure and free. This is our fight and obligation.
